Translating Research Advances into Innovative Therapies

The incidence and complexity of colorectal cancer calls for a multidisciplinary approach which can be found at the Colorectal Center at the USC/Norris Cancer Hospital.  The Center is headquartered at the hospital where patients with difficult to treat cancer can have access to a team of skilled specialists and more advanced therapies. 

Comprehensive care is provided by USC physicians in both in-patient and out-patient settings. The physicians on staff at both the Center and Hospital are on the faculty of the Keck School of Medicine of USC. The team includes experts from eight specialties offering aspects of colorectal cancer care from prevention, screening and risk assessment, diagnostic work-up, and treatment for early, advanced and metastatic colorectal cancer.

The program is designed so that patients may be seen by appropriate specialists during one visit - an arrangement which can offer greater convenience to patients and their families.  Social workers, nurses, nutritionists, radiation therapists, genetic counselors, physical therapists, and their assistants all have an active role in helping the patient throughout their course of treatment.  Following patient evaluation, the Center's team meets to develop treatment options.  A customized care plan is then determined in consultation with the referring physicians and patients.
