Feelings, Questions and Concerns
|
 |
|
Cancer is a disease that can affect your emotions as well as your body. The statements below express some of the feelings, concerns and questions that our patients often have:
- "I've been so upset and scared since treatment started. I really need someone to talk to."
- "My family and friends have all been treating me differently since I was diagnosed. They're trying to be supportive, but they're making me uncomfortable."
- "I don't know what to tell the children about their mother's illness."
- "I'm doing ok, now, but I'm worried about the future. What will I do if I can't take care of myself at home.?"
- "I thought about joining a support group, but I don't know how to find one that's right for me."
- "There is no one to drive me. I might not be treated here unless I find a way to get to the hospital."
- "I've been having trouble sleeping. Would a relaxation tape help?"
- "A friend told me about visualization and imagery. Is there a book I can read that can teach me how to use these techniques?"
A USC/Norris social worker can help you learn to cope with these experiences by offering emotional support and knowledge about community resources. Our social workers are Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW) qualified to counsel patients and families. An integral part of the cancer treatment team, they work closely with the patients to help ensure their needs are met.
Contact the USC/Norris Social Services Department for a consultation with a social worker. USC/Norris provides this service at no cost to USC/Norris patients. Call us at 323.865.3150 or stop by our office.
